SandwichBike
Avreste mai creduto che due pannelli in legno potessero regalare la pedalata più eccentrica che si possa immaginare? Ci ha pensato il designer Basten Leijh e l’ha chiamata “Sandwichbike”. Un prodotto originale di design olandese, ispirato dall’idea della scatola compatta, il montaggio a casa e la voglia incessante di creare prodotti eccezionali. Invece di un telaio saldato, la bici è costruita come un “sandwich”, formato da due pezzi rivestiti di compensato. Grazie all’utilizzo di “cilindri intelligenti”, i telai e tutti gli altri componenti vengono compattati in modo da creare una struttura solida, durevole ed esteticamente piacevole.
La Sandwichbike entra in una piccola scatola compatta e può essere quindi spedita per posta. Il divertimento inizia alla consegna della scatola: l’emozione di montare la propria Sandwichbike è pari solo a quella di salirci in sella. Ovunque si vada si prova l’ebbrezza di una pedalata armoniosa. Ricordate però: noi non siamo responsabili per tutti gli sguardi che attirerete.
Basten Leijh - Designer industriale che ha progettato un’ampia gamma di prodotti per l’illuminazione, l’arredamento e la mobilità per aziende rinomate come Modular, Ahrend e Giant. Ha iniziato la sua carriera subito dopo la laurea alla Design Academy di Eindhoven con la sua Downtown. Questa bicicletta è stata immessa sul mercato da Giant e adesso è un’icona del design olandese. La Sandwichbike ha fatto scalpore in tutto il mondo: questa innovativa rivisitazione in legno della due ruote a pedali classica traduce benissimo il focus sullo sviluppo dell’invenzione.

A Dutch Design original that was inspired by the concept of flat packing, home assembly and our never-ending drive to create exceptional products. Instead of a welded frame, it is engineered as a ‘sandwich’ of two weather coated frames of layered plywood. Bonded together by ‘smart cylinders’, the frames and components become a rock-solid piece of technology that is both durable and extremely attractive.

Basten Leijh - an industrial designer who has designed a range of products for lighting, furniture and mobility renowned companies like Modular, Ahrend and Giant. He hit the ground running when graduating from the Design Academy Eindhoven with his Downtown. This bicycle that was introduced in the market by Giant is now an icon of Dutch Design. Sandwichbikes created buzz around the world: the flat-packed innovative wooden re-think on the classic two-wheeled design, is a good representation of his focus on invention development.
